For those of you who do not know, last week was SEMA, also known as Specialty Equipment Market Association. SEMA is basically the largest aftermarket automotive trade show in the world. Shops from all over create crazy builds and unveil amazing new products. One of the major unveilings that we need to talk about is Mopar’s Hellephant Crate Motor!
A few weeks prior to SEMA, Mopar gave us a teaser video with hints towards a vintage Dodge Challenger with modern aspects and an Elephant. Some of us were thinking that Dodge would add to their SRT lineup of the Dodge Demon, Hellcat Challenger, Charger, and the Challenger Redeye, but on the day of the unveiling, we were treated with something a little different, but still exciting.
Mopar hit us with a new crate motor that puts all other motors to shame. The Hellephant motor is a brand new, turn key motor that is capable of pushing out 1000hp right out of the crate. So how did they do it? The answer lies in weight reduction and more displacement. It seems like when Dodge first came out with the Hellcat motor, it started a platform that could be built on, leaving us with the chance for bigger and better motors.
How Did They Do It
On the Hellephant, Dodge went with a larger 3.0L supercharger, compared to the 2.4L on the Hellcat motor or the 2.7L on the Demon. Another major redesigned is the forged aluminum block. In comparison to the prior generations with a cast iron block, the new 426 Hemi block saves quite a bit of weight.
What Cha Get
So, if you need a Hellephant crate motor, you can be expecting to get a high flow water pump, flywheel, front sump oil pan, supercharger, and PCM. You can also get the pedal assembly and ECU to make dropping the Hellephant into any pre-1976 street or off road vehicle a snap.
